My Thoughts

In short, I think the announcement of any new Sony FE lens is welcomed!

The introduction to the Sony 85mm f/1.8 is a great entry level portrait lens for the Sony E-Mount system. Priced at $599USD, the current conversion would make that around £480GBP, it could possibly be a great value for any photographer starting out in portrait photography.

The 100mm f/2.8 STF GM lens looks interesting to me. The styling of the GM lens looks reminiscent of the 85mm f/1.4 GM, which is a design I actually think looks pretty good!

It is being touted for having the ‘best bokeh’, which if it’s better than the 85mm f/1.4 GM I would actually be pretty stunned.

The Bokeh in the above sample images do look very impressive, however it is obviously best to do side-by-side comparisons and lets hope I am able to get my hands on one somehow.

Currently neither lens is on my ‘to buy’ list, but as mentioned at the beginning, any Sony FE lens is welcomed into the world of photography for me.
